Quick Answer: What Is Go2Meds Pharmacy?

Go2Meds is a Philippine community-pharmacy and franchising company founded by Julius F. Llanera.

The company provides branded and generic medicines, medical supplies, pharmacy-franchise opportunities, operational training, technology systems, marketing support, and community healthcare programs.

Its business model is designed not only to open drugstores, but also to establish neighborhood healthcare hubs in areas where medicines and basic health services may be difficult to access.

A Pharmacy Business Born From a Real Community Problem

Llanera grew up in El Nido, Palawan.

As he traveled around different parts of the country, he saw how people in remote communities struggled to access medicine. In some places, buying basic medication required hours of travel.

Large pharmacy brands were already present in many major commercial areas. But numerous rural and developing communities remained underserved.

Instead of asking, “How can I compete with the largest drugstore chains?” Llanera focused on a different question:

“Which communities are still not being served?”

That question gave Go2Meds its original market position.

Go where the need is greatest, then build trust by serving the community consistently.

That mission later attracted interest from entrepreneurs in other regions, eventually taking Go2Meds into Mindanao, the Visayas, Northern and Southern Luzon, and Metro Manila.

The Childhood Training That Built His Resilience

Long before he became a CPA or pharmacy entrepreneur, Llanera was already being trained in responsibility.

His grandfather supplied water to their barangay in rural El Nido. During school breaks, young Julius helped deliver water using a carabao.

There were days when the carabao became tired and refused to continue. No matter how quickly Julius wanted to finish the deliveries, he had to wait.

That experience taught him a lesson he would later apply in business:

Some delays are beyond your control. You learn to pause, adjust, recover, and continue moving.

He also helped care for ducks, collected and cleaned their eggs, arranged them in trays, and sold them to local stores. Instead of spending everything, he saved his earnings in a piggy bank.

These activities trained him to understand:

  • The value of work
  • The importance of saving
  • The connection between effort and reward
  • The reality of setbacks
  • The discipline required to finish a task
  • The responsibility of making decisions

From CPA and SGV Professional to Entrepreneur

Llanera studied accountancy at Manuel L. Quezon University and became a Certified Public Accountant.

He also gained leadership experience as president of an accountancy organization representing students from approximately 70 schools across the National Capital Region.

After college, he worked with SGV, one of the Philippines’ most established professional-services firms.

However, his strongest abilities were not limited to accounting. He discovered that he was naturally drawn to sales, negotiation, relationship-building, business development, and creating large visions.

Before entering the pharmacy industry, he sold insurance and real estate — focusing on explaining value and building trust.

The ₱10-Million Failure That Nearly Ended His Journey

Before Go2Meds, Llanera was invited to lead a construction-related business.

He entered the company believing his leadership and sales abilities could help turn it around. Instead, the business failed.

Investors were involved, and Llanera said he suffered an estimated eight-digit loss — approximately ₱10 million.

The financial loss was painful. The damage to his confidence and reputation was even more difficult.

He experienced depression and sleepless nights. He could have returned permanently to accounting and chosen a safer path.

Instead, he made a decision:

He would rebuild.

A major real-estate transaction later gave him an opportunity to recover financially. He said he was able to sell a property worth nine figures, which helped him start again.

One successful transaction cannot erase the lessons of failure — but it can give a prepared entrepreneur another chance to build better.

How the Pandemic Opened the Door to Healthcare

During the pandemic, a friend asked Llanera to help locate medical equipment.

He found an exclusive distributor and began recognizing opportunities not only in medical equipment, but also in medicines and other healthcare products.

However, entering the medical business required him to become a student again. He was not a doctor, pharmacist, or healthcare professional.

He had to learn pharmaceutical operations, medicine procurement, supplier management, inventory control, licensing requirements, regulatory processes, pharmacy staffing, and health-product distribution.

His accounting background helped him understand the numbers. His sales experience helped him build relationships. His childhood training helped him endure the difficult learning process. And his experience in Palawan gave him a clear reason to continue.

The Birth of Go2Meds Pharmacy

Llanera opened the first Go2Meds location in Palawan.

From the beginning, his vision was much bigger than one or two stores. He said that even before building the network, he imagined Go2Meds eventually reaching 1,000 branches.

Start small, but think big.

He did not immediately franchise the business. First, he opened and operated company-owned locations. After seeing encouraging results from the first two branches, he began offering the model to franchisees.

Why the Pharmacy Business Has Strong Potential

Medicines are essential products. Demand may come from children, adults, seniors, patients with hypertension or diabetes, families purchasing vitamins, and customers buying medical supplies.

Unlike highly trend-dependent products, medicines serve recurring health needs.

Llanera highlighted the potential margins available on selected generic medicines, citing estimated markups of around 200% to 500% for certain products during the interview.

Important Distinction

Markup is not the same as net profit. A 200% product markup does not mean the owner takes home a 200% profit. A pharmacy still has to pay for rent, salaries, pharmacist compensation, electricity, inventory replenishment, franchise fees, marketing, delivery costs, taxes, permits, technology systems, and working capital. Actual profitability depends on the store’s complete financial structure.

How the Go2Meds Franchise Model Works

Go2Meds positions its franchise model as an end-to-end system designed to make pharmacy ownership more manageable for entrepreneurs without extensive industry experience.

Site Selection

The team assists in evaluating potential locations and preparing the store for launch.

Regulatory Assistance

Go2Meds helps franchisees navigate documents and pharmacy-related compliance processes. However, assistance from a franchisor does not remove the owner’s obligation to verify that all licenses and permits are valid.

Pharmacist Recruitment Assistance

Llanera explained that the company can assist franchisees in finding a pharmacist. Under the Philippine Pharmacy Act, establishments dispensing prescription medicines must operate under the direct supervision of a registered and licensed pharmacist.

Operations and Management Training

Franchisees receive training covering pharmacy operations, business management, and customer service.

Inventory and POS Technology

Go2Meds provides point-of-sale and inventory-management support designed to help operators monitor stocks, sales, and business performance.

Marketing and Launch Support

Franchisees may receive advertising assistance, local marketing materials, launch campaigns, and community-based promotions.

Continuous Business Support

Ongoing support includes business reviews, operational optimization, staff development, inventory management, marketing campaigns, financial analysis, and technical assistance.

Setup Timeline

The company says its streamlined process can help a branch become operational in approximately 90 days, although actual opening time may vary depending on site readiness, permits, construction, pharmacist availability, and government processing.

More Than Medicine: Medical Missions and Community Care

One of Go2Meds’ strongest differentiators is its community-service approach.

According to Llanera, the company has organized:

  • Free medical clinics
  • Uric-acid, cholesterol, and blood-sugar testing
  • Doctor deployment and health consultations
  • Medicine access programs

When properly conducted with qualified professionals, these initiatives can help identify health risks earlier and encourage people to seek appropriate care.

Technology, Delivery and Pharmacy Innovation

Llanera discussed medicine-delivery services and a Go2Meds application designed to improve customer convenience.

Digital capabilities can become increasingly valuable for seniors who have difficulty traveling, busy professionals, patients requiring regular refills, and families in distant communities.

Modern pharmacy technology supports real-time inventory visibility, refill reminders, loyalty rewards, customer records, performance tracking, delivery coordination, and sales analytics.

From Two Stores to More Than 50 Branches

Go2Meds began franchising after operating its first two locations.

Today, its official website reports more than 50 branches nationwide, with locations in areas such as Caloocan, Pangasinan, Laguna, and Palawan.

Do not franchise an idea. Franchise a system that has first been tested in actual operations.

Recognition and Strategic Expansion

Go2Meds received the Initiative Award for Health Promotion–Philippines at the Healthcare Asia Pharma Awards 2026.

The award recognized the company’s work in expanding affordable medicines and healthcare services in underserved Filipino communities.

The company also entered a strategic collaboration with Global SME Loans Inc. to support the expansion of community pharmacies.

As Reported in the News

The Go2Meds × Global SME Loans partnership was covered by Manila Bulletin (March 31, 2026) and The Manila Times (March 22, 2026), positioning it as a way to combine the community-pharmacy model with financing and business support for local pharmacy networks.

How Much Does a Go2Meds Franchise Cost?

There are two publicly discussed figures that prospective franchisees should understand.

During the RDR Talks interview, Llanera cited a franchise investment starting at approximately:

₱750,000

This investment reportedly covers the franchise package including shelving, opening inventory, hands-on training, and operational support.

This difference does not automatically mean either figure is wrong. Franchise costs can change because of store size, location, construction requirements, rental deposits, inventory level, equipment, signage, technology, permit expenses, package upgrades, inflation, territory, and working-capital requirements.

Before Paying Any Amount

Request a complete and updated written breakdown of the franchise package, including all-in investment costs, before making any financial commitment.

Important Due Diligence Before Investing

A pharmacy may be an essential business, but it is not a guaranteed-success business. Prospective franchisees should verify the following:

1. Total All-In Investment

Ask what the package includes and excludes. Confirm whether the quoted amount covers franchise fee, store construction, shelving, signage, opening inventory, POS hardware, rental deposit, FDA fees, local permits, pharmacist recruitment, staff salaries, marketing launch, and working capital.

2. Franchise Agreement

Review contract duration, renewal fees, royalty fees, territory protection, required suppliers, minimum purchases, termination rules, and non-compete clauses. A qualified lawyer should review the contract before signing.

3. Pharmacist Availability and Cost

A licensed pharmacist is a critical operating requirement — not an optional staff position. Determine recruitment availability, monthly compensation, and replacement procedures.

4. FDA and Local Compliance

Verify the validity of FDA License to Operate, local business permit, BIR registration, barangay clearance, occupancy and fire-safety requirements, and pharmacist credentials.

5. Realistic Profit Projection

Prepare three scenarios: conservative, expected, and aggressive. Your conservative model should still leave enough capital to operate during the first several months.

Julius Llanera’s Advice to Filipino Entrepreneurs

Llanera’s advice is not to begin with money alone. He encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to:

Find a Purpose

A business becomes easier to fight for when it solves a real problem.

Pray and Seek Direction

His Christian faith played a major role in how he processed failure, recovery, and opportunity.

Think Bigger Than the Current Setback

Your present problem should not be allowed to define your entire future.

Start Small, but Keep a Big Vision

You do not need to begin with 1,000 branches. You need to build the first branch properly.

Focus on Creating Value

Llanera believes that when a business consistently adds value to other people, revenue becomes a result of service rather than the only purpose of the enterprise.

From Failure to a Business That Serves

Julius Llanera’s story is not powerful simply because he built more than 50 pharmacy branches.

It is powerful because the business was built after failure.

He lost approximately ₱10 million. He experienced depression. He questioned his direction. He was forced to rebuild his confidence, finances, and reputation.

But instead of allowing the loss to become the ending of his entrepreneurial journey, he turned it into preparation.

The boy who once waited for a tired carabao in Palawan eventually learned that progress is not always fast.

Sometimes, you move.

Sometimes, you pause.

Sometimes, you lose.

Sometimes, you rebuild.

The important thing is knowing why you must continue.

Your biggest failure may not be the end of your business story. It may be the experience that prepares you to build a business with a bigger purpose.
